Measuring Window Width and Length

In order to accurately measure the inside mount window width, you should measure the top, middle, and bottom of the window recess and choose the narrowest measurement as the width. For the window length, measure the exact length at the left, middle, and right sides of the recess and select the longest measurement as the length. The window depth should be a minimum of 2 inches.

When ordering a roman shade for an inside mount, select a width that is 1/4 inch smaller than the narrowest window width and a length that is equal to or longer than the longest window length.

Mounting an Outside Roman Shade

For an outside mount, ensure there is at least 7/8 inches of flat mounting space above the window to accommodate the hardware. Choose a roman blind width that is equal to or greater than the window width and consider adding 3-6 inches for better light control and privacy. Measure the distance from the proposed headrail location to the base of the sill (or desired drop point) and add 8-10 inches for optimum light control and privacy.

When ordering an outside mount roman shade, choose a width that is equal to or wider than the window width and a length that matches or exceeds the measured length.
